For the Noodles:
- 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil or traditional)
For the Ricotta Filling:
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 24 oz marinara sauce
For the Topping:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Additional Parmesan cheese for sprinkling
Instructions
For the Noodles:
- 1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish with nonstick spray or olive oil.
- 2. If using traditional lasagna noodles, boil them according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on parchment paper.
For the Meat Sauce:
- 3. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked (about 7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed, then stir in marinara sauce and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
For the Ricotta Filling:
- 4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and chopped basil. Mix until well combined.
For Assembly:
- 5. In your greased baking dish, start layering: spread a cup of meat sauce at the bottom, add a layer of noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, more meat sauce, and repeat until all ingredients are used. Top with noodles and remaining sauce.
- 6. Finish by sprinkling shredded mozzarella and remaining Parmesan on top. Cover tightly with foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until melted and golden brown.
- 7. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes before slicing to ensure it holds its shape nicely. Garnish with extra basil if desired.
