Delightfully spooky treats for kids and adults that are easy to make and fun to decorate!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Food colorings (orange, purple, green)

For Royal Icing:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp meringue powder

Instructions

  1. 1. Prepare Your Dough:
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  3. 2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
  4. In another bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture into the wet ingredients. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  5. 3. Chill the Dough:
  6. Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about one hour to prevent spreading during baking.
  7. 4. Roll Out & Cut Shapes:
  8. Roll out chilled dough on a floured surface to about a quarter-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to create fun Halloween shapes like ghosts, pumpkins, or bats.
  9. 5. Bake Away:
  10. Place cut-out cookies on lined baking sheets about an inch apart. Bake in preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until edges turn golden brown.
  11. 6. Decorate & Enjoy:
  12. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing colored with food dye. Let them dry fully before serving.
