Ingredients
Scale
For the Patties:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
- 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- Water (for mixing cornstarch)
Instructions
For the Patties:
- 1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, half of the chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid overworking the meat.
- 2. Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties.
For the Gravy:
- 3. In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Sauté remaining chopped onions until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 4. Push onions to one side and add patties to the skillet. Cook for about 4 minutes on each side until browned but not fully cooked through.
- 5. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; scrape up brown bits from the pan for added flavor.
- 6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until smooth. Stir this into the simmering skillet and let it thicken for a couple of minutes.
- 7. Serve patties topped with gravy alongside mashed potatoes or rice.
