For the Patty:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices rye bread
For the Secret Sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tsp paprika
Instructions
For the Secret Sauce:
- 1. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and paprika until well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.
For the Patty:
- 2. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add butter and sauté onions until golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- 3. While onions cook, form the ground beef into four patties, about half an inch thick. Season with salt and pepper.
- 4. Grill patties in the same skillet over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side until desired doneness is reached. Place cheese on top during the last minute of cooking to melt.
For Assembly:
- 5. Spread secret sauce on one slice of rye bread. Place a grilled patty topped with caramelized onions on top, then add another slice of rye bread.
- 6. Toast both sides of the sandwich in the skillet until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
