For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce

For the Cheese Filling:

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped (or 2 tsp dried basil)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Layers:

  • 12 lasagna noodles (traditional or oven-ready)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

For the Meat Sauce:

  1. 1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  2. 2. Stir in the marinara sauce and let it simmer while preparing other layers.

For the Cheese Filling:

  1. 1. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, fresh basil (or dried), salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

For Assembly:

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
  3. 3. Layer three or four lasagna noodles on top.
  4. 4. Spoon half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the mozzarella cheese.
  5. 5. Repeat layers—noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella—ending with meat sauce topped with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  6. 6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. 7. Allow to cool for about ten minutes before slicing and serving.
