For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 cups marinara sauce
For the Cheese Filling:
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped (or 2 tsp dried basil)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Layers:
- 12 lasagna noodles (traditional or oven-ready)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
For the Meat Sauce:
- 1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
- 2. Stir in the marinara sauce and let it simmer while preparing other layers.
For the Cheese Filling:
- 1. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, fresh basil (or dried), salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
For Assembly:
- 1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
- 3. Layer three or four lasagna noodles on top.
- 4. Spoon half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the mozzarella cheese.
- 5. Repeat layers—noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella—ending with meat sauce topped with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- 6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- 7. Allow to cool for about ten minutes before slicing and serving.
